Originating from Madhya Pradesh, The Chanderi Saree is a popular choice of saree amidst the middle and upper class. The Chanderi fabric is known for its sheer texture, light weight, and a glossy transparency that provides an unmatched for sophistication to its wearer. Made with the finest cotton, it is one of the lightest sarees one can find in the country. The typical patterns on it are inspired from nature- swans, trees, fruits, flowers, peacocks- and geometric patterns. The Chanderi Saree occupies a special place in every woman’s wardrobe because of its finely textured fabric of silk and cotton engraved with Zari work. They are also embroidered using jute threads which makes it hybrid and unique- a cut above the rest!

As per historical records and mythological scriptures Chanderi was founded by Lord Krishna's cousin Shishupala.

The famous weaving culture started during the 2nd century. This beautiful town is situated at the periphery of the two rich cultural regions of the state, Malwa and Bundelkhand. Chanderi enjoys the GI status for weaving of Chanderi sarees and is the only 100% handloom weaving cluster in India. There are different fabrics and materials that sarees are made of. What every single kind of detail that goes into a saree is taken into account. The embroidery, the design, the weaving, and the cloth – all of it matters for the woman who is wearing it. Given the different cultures of different states, many one-of-a-kind sarees are hidden in the archives of India’s fashion diaries. One of the unique types of sarees that India’s artisans have produced is the Chanderi – the handwoven saree.

The grand Chanderi sarees come in mainly three different fabrics: pure silk, cotton, and silk cotton, with unique prints of geometric designs, floral art and traditional coins. Traditional motifs like birds, Peacocks, flora and geometric patterns are woven into sarees and textiles. The sarees are among the finest sarees in India and are known for their gold and silver brocade or zari, fine silk and opulent embroidery.
